Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden

Don't let the word "botanical garden" put you off — this place is huge and it's a lot more fun than it sounds. Sixteen kilometres south of Pattaya, Nong Nooch is one of Southeast Asia's most-visited attractions, spread over 500 acres of themed gardens done up in French, European and Thai styles. The cultural show is the surprise hit: traditional dance, elephants, Thai boxing, all properly done. And the cactus garden? Weirdly brilliant. Budget a half-day minimum. Kids love it, and the adults who roll their eyes on arrival are usually the ones who don't want to leave.
