Pattaya’s nightlife is spread across five distinct zones that barely overlap. Pick the wrong one for your mood and you’ll spend the night overpaying for drinks in a place that feels nothing like what you wanted. Pick the right one and Pattaya makes more sense.
Here’s where each nightlife area is, what it feels like, and who should actually go there.
The short version
- Walking Street — South Pattaya. The famous one. Loud, chaotic, expensive by Pattaya standards. Worth seeing; most regulars end up somewhere else.
- Soi 6 — Central Pattaya. 98 bars in 400 metres. The only daytime nightlife in the city — open from noon, busiest 2–8pm.
- LK Metro — Central Pattaya. Compact go-go strip off Soi Diana. Late hours (often until 3–4am), 20–30% cheaper than Walking Street.
- Soi Buakhao / Tree Town — Central Pattaya. The expat belt. Beer from ฿60, live music, relaxed open-air bars, Tree Town’s market and craft bars alongside.

Walking Street — the famous one
Where: South Pattaya, running from Beach Road south to Bali Hai Pier. About 500 metres, pedestrianised from 7pm.
Walking Street is what most people picture when they think of Pattaya nightlife. Big clubs with cover charges, go-go bars on every block, live music venues, seafood restaurants with fish tanks facing the footpath, and a crowd that’s half backpackers and half bus-tour arrivals.
Prices here are the highest in the city. A local beer in a go-go bar runs ฿120–180, cocktails in the clubs ฿250–400, and a lady drink anywhere from ฿150–250. Some clubs charge ฿200–400 entry on busy nights (often including one drink), but many nights are free entry with drink purchase — it varies by venue and event.
At 11pm it is still worth seeing once: neon from both sides, touts, music coming from every door, tour groups and Thai families taking selfies alongside solo travellers. Most people who’ve been to Pattaya a few times end up spending their nights elsewhere, but Walking Street is still Pattaya’s postcard nightlife strip.

Walking Street at peak hours — one of Southeast Asia’s most concentrated nightlife strips
Soi 6 — daytime drinking and open-air bars
Where: Central Pattaya, between Beach Road and Second Road. Sign on Beach Road roughly 500 metres north of Central Pattaya Road.
Soi 6 is the only place in Pattaya where nightlife starts at noon and the street is already full at 3pm. Around 98 open-fronted bars pack into 400 metres, all small, all social, all operating the moment you’d normally be at the beach.
Beer runs ฿80–120, around 20–30% less than the go-go bars on Walking Street. From 2pm to 8pm it is loud, boozy and social; by midnight the energy drops and most bars wind down by 2am.
Best for: Afternoon sessions, people-watching, anyone who wants the bar scene without the Walking Street crowds or late hours.
Skip if: You’re on a family trip or want a quiet drink.
LK Metro — the late-night go-go strip
Where: Central Pattaya, off Soi Diana (between Second Road and Pattaya Third Road). An L-shaped pedestrian strip about 200 metres long.
LK Metro packs roughly 30–40 bars and go-go venues into a tight grid. Many run until 3–4am in peak periods, though closing times vary by venue. It runs Walking Street in character — go-go bars, lady drinks, house music — but with fewer tourists and lower prices. Beer runs ฿80–120, go-go drinks at ฿120–160, and the same bar-fine economics as Walking Street at 20–30% less cost.
The crowd skews toward regulars, long-stayers and expats rather than first-timers, which keeps the tourist pressure off. It starts late and finishes late; there’s little point arriving before 9pm.
Best for: Late nights, go-go bars without the Walking Street premium, anyone who’s done Walking Street and wants the same thing at better prices.

Soi Buakhao and Tree Town — the expat belt
Where: Soi Buakhao runs roughly north–south through central Pattaya, parallel to Second Road and about 200–300 metres inland from it, between Central Pattaya Road (north) and Soi Diana (south). Tree Town is the newer, more organised pocket of the Buakhao area, with food stalls, bars and live-music spots clustered together around Soi Lengkee.
A lot of Pattaya regulars and long-stayers drink here because it is cheaper and easier than Walking Street. Soi Buakhao is the longest nightlife corridor in the city — open-air beer bars, sports bars, live music pubs, Thai restaurants, and small guesthouses running for 1.5 kilometres. Beer starts from ฿60–90 at most bars, lower than anywhere else in the city. Cocktails rarely break ฿150.
Tree Town is the modern end of the Buakhao belt: a cluster of craft bars, restaurants and a street market that opened to draw a younger and more tourist-facing crowd. The street market sells Thai food from ฿40–80 a dish. It’s more curated than the rest of Buakhao, but still at Buakhao prices rather than Walking Street prices.

Jomtien and Pratumnak — the quieter side
Jomtien: About 5 km south of central Pattaya. Jomtien Complex (near Soi 7 and Soi 8) is the main nightlife cluster here — a compact area of beer bars, small go-go venues, and restaurants. It’s the main gay bar area in Pattaya, and the vibe is generally quieter and more community-oriented than central Pattaya. Grab from central Pattaya runs about ฿80–120.
Pratumnak: The hill between central Pattaya and Jomtien, known for upscale hotels and rooftop bars with sea views. Venues along Cosy Beach and the hill itself serve sunset cocktails from ฿200–300 in a calmer setting. Not a bar-hopping destination — more a place to start the evening with a view before heading elsewhere. Nightlife safety basics
These apply across every zone:
- Check your bar bill before paying. Bill-padding is the most common scam in Pattaya — prices suddenly inflating, rounds added that weren’t ordered. Know what you’ve drunk and challenge anything that doesn’t add up.
- Lady drinks: buying a bar hostess a drink is standard and expected. The price is usually shown on a menu. Ask if it’s not visible — the price should be ฿150–250, not ฿500.
- “Free show” and “ping-pong show” touts outside Walking Street venues: nothing is free. The tour ends in a padded bill and sometimes physical intimidation. Walk past.

Getting between the zones
All the central zones are walkable if you’re already in the area:
- Walking Street to Soi 6: 20–25 minutes on foot north along Beach Road, or flag a baht bus heading north (฿10).
- Soi 6 to LK Metro: Walk or take a baht bus south along Second Road to Soi Diana, then turn inland — LK Metro is a few hundred metres from Second Road.
- Soi 6 to Soi Buakhao: Walk the length of Soi 6 to Second Road, then take any cross-soi inland — Soi Buakhao is roughly 200–300 metres west of Second Road. About 10 minutes on foot.
- Jomtien: Grab from central Pattaya, ฿80–120 depending on traffic. The regular baht bus route on Second Road heading south reaches Jomtien (฿10 within central Pattaya, often ฿20 for the longer Jomtien run on the regular route; a private baht-bus charter will cost more — agree the price before getting in).
- Pratumnak: Grab from Walking Street, ฿60–100. The hill is between Walking Street and Jomtien so it falls naturally on the way south.
