Pictures don't do this one justice. The Sanctuary of Truth is a 105-metre tower built entirely from teak, carved by hand, held together with no nails — and still not finished after 45 years. Every surface is covered in Hindu and Buddhist carvings about people, earth and the cosmos. They started in 1981 and they're still at it, so there's a decent chance you'll see craftsmen mid-chisel. Come for sunset, when the wooden spires go gold against the sky. It's out in Naklua, and it's proof the city is more than its bars.
